Ever since its first breakthrough it was dropped the mainstream back in the 80s, porn has been pushing the boundaries of technology. You see, back in the 70s, when porn movies were considered a normal item on every cinema’s menu, there was no need for people making them to invent anything new in order to deliver them to the masses. But, with the coming of the 1980s, that changed completely. All of a sudden, porn was shunned and considered to be immoral. While this, of course, is a debate for another time, you still have to realize that lovers of porn needed to get their fill somehow.
And people who make porn helped them out by clinging onto a whole new technology. That technology were the VHS tapes. When video players/recorders were in their infancy and present in only a few homes, the adult entertainment industry decided to push out their products via the VHS tapes. This worked in favor of both this new technology, as well as the porn industry. Porn helped sell more video players, while these players helped sell more porn movies. It was a mutually beneficial relationship, and it is mainly thanks to the porn that the VHS tapes were so popular.
Same can be said about yet another technology – the webcams. Yup, you guessed it right, if it weren’t for cam shows, it is highly debatable whether webcams would be as popular as they are today. You see, the people from the adult entertainment industry figured out yet another way in which to make porn available to masses. This way also made it more fun, since it was interactive. Nowadays, you can witness the increase in VR products when it comes to the adult entertainment industry. Who knows, maybe history can repeat itself once again. We are yet to see whether or not porn and the VR technology will have the same relationship as porn and the VHS tapes.
What I have mentioned above are just some of the examples. Back in the 90s, the adult entertainment industry increased the popularity of LaserDiscs. Later on, it switched to the DVDs. When video streaming became popular, it was the porn industry that first realized its full potential and offered its products via the internet. You can say that porn changes the face of the technology. You can also say that porn adapts. You might even say that these technologies were convenient for the porn movies and that it is thanks to them that porn is present in such a large quantity and has such a huge availability. But, you cannot deny, that back in the 80s, there wouldn’t be VHS without porn. You could give porn that at least.
Whatever the future may hold for porn, you can be sure that it will try its best to innovate and adapt to new technologies. And, who knows, it might even once again help push a certain product to the market. For that is the power of porn.
